How to publish my book in 8 weeks

With Defining Moments Press, you can write and publish your book in 8 weeks or less by following seven steps, from a free call to a launch in 87 countries.

The Defining Moments Press process starts with clarity, not writing: your idea, your reader and your outline. From there, the 8 week course, a coach or ghostwriters get the manuscript done, and the team handles or guides formatting, design and a launch to bestseller campaign.

How long does it take to publish a book?

With Defining Moments Press, writing and publishing takes 8 weeks or less. The Author Blueprint estimates about 2 to 5 hours a week over that time. If your manuscript is finished, Author Launch starts at production instead.

Without a structured process, many people take years, or never finish. Defining Moments Press describes the traditional publishing route as one that can involve about two years before a book reaches readers.

How do I publish my book? Seven steps

  1. Step 1: Book a free discovery call

Talk with a Defining Moments Press Acquisition Editor about your book idea, your ideal reader and your business goals. You will uncover profit opportunities from the book before you write a word.

  2. Step 2: Hear back and get a plan

Every applicant receives an email reply within 2 business days. If your book is a good fit, you agree on a service and a plan. If not, you still leave with clarity on your next step.

  3. Step 3: Lock your outline

Defining Moments Press says lack of clarity is the number one reason most people never finish. Your book, reader and table of contents come first.

  4. Step 4: Write, or have it written

Follow the 8 week course with coaching (Author Training), on your own (Author Blueprint), or let ghostwriters draft it (Author Premium). Finished manuscripts skip this step (Author Launch).

  5. Step 5: Format and design

Your interior is formatted for ebook and print and your book and cover are designed, by the team or with templates if you chose DIY.

  6. Step 6: Launch to bestseller

Book marketing and a launch campaign put the book in front of readers, with your book available in 87 countries using major publishers.

  7. Step 7: Keep it working

Use the book for clients, speaking and media. Author Training includes ongoing coaching for a year and a media and podcast list; Author Premium includes book media appearances.

Preparing for your call

What to bring to the discovery call

  • Your idea, even if it is only a working title or a story you keep telling.
  • Your reader: who the book is for and what it should change for them.
  • Your business goals: clients, speaking, authority or a legacy.
  • Your manuscript status: not started, in progress or finished.

How long did JK Rowling take to write?

JK Rowling has said the Harry Potter idea came to her in 1990, and the first book was published in 1997, roughly seven years from idea to publication. Fiction with a new world takes time. A nonfiction book built on expertise and stories you already have is a different job, which is why an 8 week structure is realistic for many professionals.
